WARSAW, Ind. (WANE)  A Warsaw woman lied to police about being stabbed by intruders, the Warsaw Police Department announced in a press release on Friday afternoon.

She fabricated the story and stabbed herself, according to police.

Police found the 54-year-old woman lying in the entryway to her apartment at the 400-block of S. High Street with injuries to her stomach on Thursday night. She told police she carried two bags inside and went to get a bottle of soda when she saw two men wearing ski masks, black gloves and black clothes in the apartment.

The woman told police the intruders demanded her wallet and keys and that she was stabbed while looking for them. She was last known to be in stable condition.

After sending a press release out on the reported stabbing Friday morning, police sent an at about 3:30 p.m. indicating that the woman had made the entire story up. Police investigators determined that the stab wounds were self inflicted.

Police are not releasing the identity of the woman. It is not yet known if she will face false reporting charges.
