FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A man is facing a felony theft charge after police say he put meat, toilet paper, and laundry detergent in a cart at a Fort Wayne Kroger and walked out the door without paying for it.

According to court documents, Jeffery L. Gleason, 44, walked into Kroger on February 22 and loaded his cart with $697 worth of steaks, lobster, seafood, Tide Pods, and toilet paper. A Kroger employee recognized Gleason from previous theft investigations and watched him as he walked out the pharmacy exit without paying for any of the items.

Police said the employee attempted to stop Gleason but he ditched the cart, ran to his car, and drove away.

According to police, a couple of days later, the employee picked Gleason out of a photo lineup.

Police charged Gleason with theft, which is a class D felony.
