TinCaps arrive in town, ready for 2014 season

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Fort Wayne TinCaps are back in town and ready to begin a new season.

The team flew into Indianapolis Sunday afternoon, and bussed to Fort Wayne later that night.

This year’s team will be led by first year manager, Michael Collins, who has worked with the organization in the past.  He has worked with the team’s Fall League program in Arizona.  Collins said he’s also had chances to work with several players on the team who are from Central America when he coached in the Domincan Republic for a season.

Collins replaced former manager Jose Valentine, who is now the first base coach for the San Diego Padres.

Collins said the team will run through a light practice on Monday, before going through full workouts on Tuesday and Wednesday, leading up to the team’s season opener.

The team’s first game is set for Thursday night at Parkview Field.  First pitch against Great Lakes is set for 7:05.

The opening roster will include former Norwell standout Josh VanMeter.  The former Knight will play infield for the TinCaps.
