Passerby alerts firefighters to house fire

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Firefighters said a passerby alerted them to a house fire at 1513 Kitch Street, near the intersection of Pennsylvania Street, around 12:12 a.m. Sunday

When crews arrived, they said flames were shooting from the one-story house.

Investigators said the fire spread from the bedroom to surrounding rooms and the attic. No one was home at the time.

A power line fell on a chain-link fence in the backyard. Firefighters said AEP was called to the scene to secure the power line.

Firefighters had the fire under control in about 20 minutes.

The Battalion Chief at the scene said it’s not clear yet if the home was vacant or not.

Firefighters said there were no working smoke detectors in the home.

The fire is still under investigation. No injuries were reported. provides commenting on many stories to allow for constructive discussion.
