INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – 30 years ago, Indianapolis became an NFL city.

According to WANE’s sister station, WISH, in the early morning hours of March 29, 1984, 15 Mayflower moving vans showed up at the Baltimore Colts complex in the middle of a snowstorm to bring the team here.

Then-team owner Robert Irsay made the move completely unannounced after years of lobbying Baltimore for a new stadium.

“I’ve had many fine moments as mayor. I can’t say that this is the finest but this is certainly one that should make the entire city and myself very happy,” Former Indianapolis Mayor William Hudnut told WISH-TV then.

“We’re just hoping to come here with the enthusiasm that the people have and the bottom line certainly has to be winning,” added Frank Kush, former Colts coach.
