GE to close remaining Fort Wayne facilities

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  After more than a century of having a presence in Fort Wayne, General Electric has decided to close the two remaining facilities still in operation.

Matt Conkrite, a spokesman for GE, told NewsChannel 15 that as of Friday, the motors testing lab located on the company’s Broadway campus south of downtown has closed leaving 27 people without jobs.   The company is also moving forward with plans to close its executive center located on Coliseum Boulevard.  That facility employs about 60 people.

On January 27, GE told the two unions representing the remaining workers that they would have 60 days to bargain on a new agreement.  The 60 days time frame ended on Thursday with no agreement reached.
