Two arrested at motel on meth charges

DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department arrested two people Saturday when officers responded to a motel in Waterloo on a tip of possible drug activity.

Michael D. Hughes and Sara K. Smith, both of Corunna, were arrested at the Twilight Inn. Officers found two active meth labs, finished meth product, controlled substances, synthetic drugs and ingredients used to make meth. Hughes was also violating a protective order against him filed by Smith.

Hughes was arrested on the following charges:

* Manufacturing Methamphetamine, A Felony
* Possession of Methamphetamine, A Felony
* Possession of Precursors, C Felony
* Possession of A Controlled Substance, C Felony
* Maintaining A Common Nuisance, D Felony
* Possession of A Synthetic Drug, A Misdemeanor
* Invasion of Privacy, A Misdemeanor

Smith was arrested on the following charges:

*Manufacturing Methamphetamine, A Felony
*Possession of Methamphetamine, A Felony
* Possession of Precursors, C Felony
* Possession of A Controlled Substance, C Felony
* Maintaining A Common Nuisance, D Felony

Both suspects were taken to the DeKalb County Jail. The sheriff’s department was assisted by the Waterloo Marshal’s Office and the Indiana State police Meth Suppression Team.
