Police nab Meijer theft suspect

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  The Fort Wayne Police Department has arrested and charged a suspect a day after asking the public for help identifying the possible thief.

William D. Whetsel Jr. has been charged with misdemeanor theft. Police said on Wednesday he stole items from the Meijer store on Lima Road and tried to $350 of merchandise from the Meijer store on Illinois Road on Tuesday.

Whetsel also had two active warrants for failing to pay child support.

Police sent to photos of the man to media on Wednesday asking the public for help identifying him. 

He was seen leaving Meijer in a grey or silver Saturn Ion with a spare tire, sometimes called a “doughnut spare,” on one of the rear tires.
