USF attains perfection, wins national title

USF wins it all

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (WANE) – Perfection has been personified in the Saint Francis women’s basketball team this season, as the Cougars beat College of the Ozarks 75-68 Tuesday night in the NAIA Division II women’s national championship game to finish 38-0 on the season.

Crossroads League player of the year Skylarr Shurn tallied 33 points to lead all scorers and was named the tournament’s MVP.

Bishop Luers graduate Brooke Ridley added 13 points and 14 rebounds for USF. Norwell graduate Jenelle Wilson chipped in with 19 points. Leo high school grad Kalah Baer added six points and 12 rebounds.

Saint Francis led 37-36 at half.

Ridley was named an All-Tournament Team First Team member, Wilson was placed on the Second Team.

Head Coach Gary Andrews was named the Phyllis Holmes Coach of the Year.

USF is the first team since 2009 to go undefeated enroute to a national championship.
