TOTW: Homestead Boys Basketball

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – After winning the program’s first-ever regional title over one of the state’s top teams, the Homestead boys basketball squad is the FWO Team of the Week.

The Spartans beat 4A no. 3 Hamilton Southeastern 59-57 Saturday night at Bill Green Arena in Marion. Earlier in the day the Spartans topped Kokomo 68-60.

Sophomore Caleb Swanigan tallied 26 points and 13 rebounds against Hamilton Southeastern. Joe Ault added 17 points while Tahj Curry chipped in 10.

Homestead is now 20-7 on the season. The Spartans will face 4A no. 8 Lake Central (21-3) at Lafayette Jefferson H.S. in semi-state action on Saturday at 3:15 p.m.

Homestead is coached by Chris Johnson. Johnson is in his 15th season leading the Spartans and has a 219-119 record at the school. He is 299-152 overall in 20 years of coaching Indiana high school basketball.
