Police find pot hidden in child safety seat

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Police arrested a man after finding a quarter of a pound of marijuana hidden in a child safety seat during a traffic stop.

According to court documents, an officer pulled over a car going 50 mph in a 45 mph zone near State and Clinton in Fort Wayne on Tuesday, March 11. When the officer approached the car, he smelled a strong scent of pot coming from inside the car.

The officer made everyone in the car get out and searched the car. In the backseat of the car, police found a baggie of pot hidden inside of a child safety seat. Police said the bag contained around a quarter of a pound of pot.

Police said Denico A. Ward, 24, was a passenger in the backseat of the car. Ward told police the pot was his and he hid it in the safety seat.

Ward faces a felony possession of marijuana charge. As of Monday afternoon, Ward was listed in the Allen County Jail.
