Police: Burglar bloodies himself breaking in, eats entire pie

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Police said a burglar who injured himself when he broke through the glass windows of a Fort Wayne business lied to hospital nurses and said he had been stabbed. Jentsen J. Hill, 23, also ate an entire pie that happened to be in the business and told police he was “blacked out” drunk when he did it.

According to an affidavit for probable cause, Hill broke into Gilkey Wholesale Greenhouse, located at 137 Chambeau Road, on February 25. Police said an employee of the greenhouse came into work that morning to find a broken window and blood throughout the building and on the outside of the building. Officers who responded to the scene also found one Nike sneaker in the building.

“We’ve never had a burglary,” Kathleen Gilkey, the co-owner of the greenhouse, said. “We were wondering if he came in to get some free flowers.”

Police said that same morning, a victim who claimed he was stabbed showed up at Parkview Hospital on State Street. The victim’s girlfriend told police she picked him up on Norfolk Avenue, which is near the greenhouse. She said the victim had blood all over him when she picked him up.

Officers later identified the victim as Hill. Police said Hill was wearing only one Nike sneaker at the hospital, which matched the sneaker they found at the scene of the burglary.

The owner of Gilkey Wholesale Greenhouse told police an iPhone was missing from her business. She also said Hill ate an entire apple pie that was in the building.

Police said cleaning and repairs will cost the company between $10,000 and $15,000. Gilkey said the blood clean up was $6,000 alone.

On March 11, Hill told police in an interview that he “blacked out” from drinking and doesn’t remember anything from that night.

According to court documents, Hill is facing a felony burglary charge. As of Friday afternoon, Hill was in the Allen County Jail.

Gilkey said they are working to clean up their business, but it will probably take another three weeks to get back to normal.
