FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Police said a man who signed in as a gym guest stole an employee’s wallet and used his credit cards to buy hundreds of dollars worth of gift cards.

According to an affidavit for probable cause, on December 24, 2013, Bruce S. Young, Jr., 18, of Fort Wayne, signed in under his own name for a trial membership at Catalyst Fitness on Hadley Road in Fort Wayne.

Police said an employee at the fitness center had his iPhone and wallet stolen from his desk that same day. The victim got online and saw that two of his credit cards had already been used at a Speedway gas station. The charges totaled more than $475, according to court documents.

Both the gym employees and the Speedway attendant picked Young out of a photo lineup. Police said in an interview, Young admitted to buying gas, along with nine $25 Foot Looker gift cards, at Speedway with the victim’s credit card.

Young said he was getting ready to go back to college and he needed the money so he stole the victim’s wallet and its contents.

According to court documents, Young wrote the victim an apology letter saying he would pay the victim back.

Young faces a felony theft charge and a felony credit card fraud charge.
