Komets Earn Key Win, Beat Everblades 5-2

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Komets tallied three goals in the second period en route to a key 5-2 win over Florida on Friday night at War Memorial Coliseum.

The victory gives the Komets a leg up on Florida in the playoff race, as the Komets and Everblades came into the night tied for the eighth and final playoff spot in the ECHL’s Eastern Conference with 15 games left in the regular season.

After a scoreless first period Shawn Szydlowski, Sy Nutkevitch, and Mitch Bruijsten each scored in the second frame as the Komets took a 3-1 leading heading into the third. Brandon Marino and Aaron Clarke put the Komets up 5-1 while a Evan Bloodoff goal set the final at 5-2.

Ben Meisner stopped 38 of 40 shots in goal for the Komets.

The Komets and Everblades will play again tomorrow. The puck drops at the Coliseum at 7:30 p.m.
