COESSE, Ind, (WANE) – The Whitley County Coroner has identified the two men who died in a house fire in Coesse last week.

Robert McKinzie, Sr., 58, and Fredrick Niemann, 54, died on Wednesday, March 5 in the fire at 2480 Barr Street.

The coroner said DNA was used to make a positive identification on the two men.

Fire officials said five people were inside the home when it caught fire. Two children and two adults made it out safely, but the father of the children, Niemann, did not. The grandfather of the children, McKinzie, went back inside the burning home to get his son-in-law, but neither were able to make it out. Their bodies were discovered several hours after the fire started.
