Rays Assign Luers Grad Kiermaier To Triple-A

Kevin Kiermaier

Bishop Luers graduate Kevin Kiermaier will start the season in Triple-A Durham as the Tampa Bay Rays made a number of moves on Thursday.

Kiermaier was one of a handful of players optioned to Durham. That list includes former Fort Wayne TinCap Vince Belnome.

Kiermaier made his MLB debut in game 163 last season for the Rays as a late inning defensive replacement. He also appeared as a defensive replacement in Tampa’s playoff game against the Indians.

Kiermaier hit .278 (5-for-18) this spring.  His sole home run came last Friday against Toronto’s top prospect Marcus Stroman.
