IPFW falls short of NCAA bid, loses to NDSU 60-57

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (WANE) – IPFW’s quest for the program’s first-ever berth in the NCAA tournament fell three points short, as the Mastodons lost to North Dakota State 60-57 in the Summit League championship game on Tuesday night in Sioux Falls.

NDSU earns the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.

IPFW’s Michael Kibiloski and Luis Jacobo each had nine points in the first 20 minutes. IPFW shot 50-percent from the field (12-of-24) in the first half.

The second half was a back-and-forth game that went down to the final few plays. With 1:37 left Steve Forbes hit two free throws to give IPFW a 55-54 lead.

Taylor Braun of NDSU would hit a lay-up to give NDSU a 56-55 lead with 1:19 to go. Braun hit a wild shot and got fouled with a 12 seconds left. The three-point play gave NDSU a 59-55 lead.

A bucket by Joe Reed with six seconds left pulled IPFW within two, but Kory Brown’s free throw and a missed heave by IPFW at the buzzer set the final at 60-57.

IPFW is now 24-10 on the season and accepted a bid to the CollegeInsider.com postseason tournament late Tuesday night. The date, time, and opponent for IPFW in the C.I.T. has yet to be determined.
