TERRE HAUTE, IN. (WANE) – In a rare occurrence, Canterbury found itself on the losing end of a state championship game Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers fell to #1 Heritage Christian 64-61 in the 2A state championship game, the programs first since making the jump up from 1A.
The Eagles shot 50 percent from the floor, while hounding the Cavs offense into 13 turnovers and just 33 percent shooting from the field. Canterbury’s dynamic duo of Kindell Fincher and Darby Maggard combined to score 44 of the teams 61 points, with Fincher regarding a 24-point 16-rebound double-double in the final game of her career.
Heritage Christian was lead by 17 points from Syndee Hall as the Eagles capped a 27-1 season.
Canterbury finishes the year 20-5 overall.
