FORT WAYNE, IN. (WANE) – North Side’s claim to being the top team in northeast Indiana continues to hold strong. The 4A no. 4 Redskins rolled past Carroll 63-40 Saturday night to claim their first 4A sectional championship since 2010. Tre Crews lead the way with 20 points, Sean McGee added 18 points. Jeremy Kalonji netted a team-high 20 for the Chargers.
The Redskins advance to the Marion regional next Saturday where they will play Hamilton Southeastern in the noon game.
In Huntington, Homestead road the scoring efforts of Caleb Swanigan and Joe Ault to a 71-62 sectional title win over South Side. Swanigan finished with a game-high 25 points and 13 rebounds, while Ault added 22. The Spartans lead 34-21 at the half, before a late push by the Archers made it a game.
Homestead will play the 10 a.m. game at the Marion regional next Saturday when the Spartans battle Kokomo.
The surprise of the day came in 3A at New Haven where the 3A no. 4 Bulldogs lost on their home court to Bishop Dwenger 50-40. Grady Eifert led the Saints with a team-high 15 points. Marcus Stepp added 13 for Dwenger while Mike Fiacable chipped in 12 points. Jordan Hogue paced the Bulldogs with 13 points.
The Saints advance to the Blackford regional where they will play 3A no. 5 NorthWood at 10 a.m. next Saturday.
In 3A play at Norwell the host Knights beat Mississinewa 69-44. Norwell will play the noon regional semifinal game next Saturday at Blackford when the Knights square off against Muncie Central.
In 2A action at Westview the host Warriors beat Bremen 60-49. The Warriors advance to face Hammond Noll in the regional semifinals next week at North Judson.
The 2A sectional title game at South Adams was postponed until Monday at 7 p.m. due to the fact that the Canterbury girls played in the 2A state title game on Saturday night. The Canterbury boys will place Woodlan at 7 p.m. Monday with the winner getting Winamac in the regional semifinals next week at North Judson.
In 2A play at Manchester high school Cass beat Oak Hill 69-53 for the sectional title.
In 1A hoops at Hamilton high school 1A no. 11 Blackhawk topped Lakewood Park 55-40. The Braves advance to regionals at Triton high school next Saturday where they will face Marquette Catholic at 12:30 p.m.
