Event to honor slain National Guard sergeant

KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) — This weekend friends and family will come together to honor a sergeant in the Indiana National Guard who was shot and killed in a robbery back in December.

Police say two men shot Sgt. 1st Class Jim Vester after setting up a deal with Vester on Craigslist to sell an iPad.

There’s a benefit Saturday in Kokomo to raise money for a scholarship in Vester’s name.

The band Walker County will play the benefit, which is at 6 p.m. at Ruhm Academy in Kokomo. The concert starts at 7:45 p.m. All donations will benefit the Jim Vester Scholarship Fund.
