FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A business in Fort Wayne is damaged after a fire Thursday morning.

Firefighters were called to 1602 Birchwood Avenue around 4:50 a.m. after an employee at Protective Coating, Inc reported an equipment fire. Additional callers reported seeing flames and smoke near the roof.

Employees said they were cutting metal near the roof of the building when insulation caught on fire. It took crews about a half-hour to get the fire under control.

Firefighters initially had trouble accessing the fire because it was located near the side of the building along the railroad tracks. Crews were soon able to attack the fire from above and below.

A 5-by-15 foot area of the roof sustained minor fire, smoke and water damage.

No injuries have been reported.
