First phase of St. Joe Hospital renovation complete

The first phase of a $5.9 million project at Saint Joe Hospital in downtown Fort Wayne is finished and hospital leaders showed it off Tuesday.

Construction crews completed phase one by installing new overhead lighting in the surgical suites Tuesday.

The work is part of a 20,000-square-foot renovation.

Surgeries in the new section will start March 17.

“The public should be excited about this because we are the heart of downtown,” said hospital spokesperson Bethany Wall. “Just to know you can go anywhere in this hospital and just receive excellent care from any department you walk into, to know that we are up to date and providing state of the art [care].”

All three phases of the renovation are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
