3/4 Boys Sectional Opening Night

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – North Side beat SAC rival Snider for the third time this season to headline the first night of boys sectional basketball in northeast Indiana.

In 4A play at Kendallville the Redskins topped the Panthers 58-46 behind 14 points from Tre’Vion Crews. Sean McGee chipped in 12 points for North Side. Devlyn Williams led Snider with 14 while Leander Williams added 11. North Side will now face East Noble at 6 p.m. on Friday in the sectional semifinals.

In the late game at Kendallville it was Northrop beat DeKalb 41-24. Northrop’s all-time assist leader Jacoby Claypool tallied 14 points while Enis Becirevic added 11. Will Chrisman led DeKalb with eight points. The Bruins will play Carroll at 7:30 p.m. Friday night.

There was only one game in 4A at Huntington North as rival Homestead beat the host Vikings 59-47. Caleb Swanigan paced the Spartans with 20 points and 20 rebounds while Tahj Curry added 15 points. Huntington North was led by Matt Hogan with 15 points and Kyle Platt with 12. Homestead now will face Wayne at 7:30 p.m. Friday following the South Side-Jay County game.

In 3A hoops at Armstrong Arena Concordia led 33-16 at half and held on to beat Garrett 57-54. Concordia was led by IUPUI signee D.J. McCall with 25 points and Reggie Tharp with 13. Garrett was paced by Justin McCoy The Cadets now square off against New Haven at 6 p.m. Friday.

Down in Ossian it was Norwell taking care of business against Heritage 79-43. David Vogel led Norwell with 23 points while Drew Shively added 17. Aaron Horne paced the Patriots with 14 points. The Knights will play Eastbrook at 6 p.m. Friday in the semifinals. In Tuesday’s late game Columbia City bested NHC rival Bellmont 52-27. Justin Bachelder scored 21 for Columbia City while Mason Coverstone added 12. Jacob Hall led the Braves with nine points. The Eagles now face Eastbrook at 7:30 p.m Friday.

In 3A play at Wawasee it was West Noble over Whitko 63-30. The Chargers advance to play Fairfield at 6 p.m. on Friday.

2A action at South Adams high school saw Woodlan beat Eastside 60-51. Jaylin Bennett led Woodlan with 23 points. The Warriors now take on Churubusco at 6 p.m. on Friday.

2A play at Manchester saw Oak Hill bested North Miami 71-42. The Golden Eagles now face Northfield at 6 p.m. Friday.

In 2A at Westview high school Fremont beat Prairie Heights 72-65 while Westview beat Central Noble 66-35. Fremont will play Bremen at 6 p.m. Friday while Westview faces Laville in the late game.

1A hoops at Hamilton high school saw Lakewood Park Christian over Lakeland Christian 63-39. The Panthers will play Howe at 6 p.m. on Friday.
