Three injured after car hits tree head-on

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – Three people were injured after a car hit a tree head-on Friday morning in Churubusco. The driver is now facing a driving while suspended charge.

According to police, Donald Barge, 29, of Churubusco, was driving southbound on 3850 N. Blue Lake Road when he went left of the centerline. His car hit a tree head-on.

Barge was pinned in the car and had to be extracted by firefighters. Police said Barge was flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center by the Samaritan helicopter.

Barge’s two passengers, Jessica Garver, 30, of Columbia City, and Logan Hontz, 27, of Churubusco, were taken to PRMC in an ambulance. Police said Garver had complaints of chest pain and Hontz suffered head injuries.

Police said speed was determined to be a factor in the crash.
