INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police said an Indianapolis mother was arrested after they found four children alone in a hotel room. Officials said they had been there for hours.
According to a police report from IMPD, Amber Smith was arrested on charges of neglect of a dependent after an anonymous caller told police to have them check on four children who were left in a hotel room by themselves.
When officers arrived, a six-year-old girl answered the door. Officers said she was trying to care for four-year-old twin brothers and a four-month-old baby.
Officers say the room conditions were horrible and there wasn’t enough food or clothing for the children.
The girl told police her “mommy would go out to get medicine.” Medics took the children to the hospital and they are now in protective custody.
Police waited for Smith at the hotel and arrested her when she returned.
