FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Komets announced Thursday that defenseman Jordon Southorn has been loaned to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL, the primary affiliate of the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens. Southorn, 23, is a fourth-year pro.
Southorn, a fourth-round pick by Buffalo in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, started the season with Elmira appearing in three games (1 goal, 4 points) before skating three games with Dundee in England of the EIHL (2 assists). Southorn was subsequently traded by Elmira to Fort Wayne where he has amassed nine goals and 23 points in 39 games to date.
The Komets will host the Greenville Road Warriors this Friday night at 8:00. It will be Comcast Report Card Night #2, an extension of report card night held Friday, Feb. 14, due to all of the missed school days and late report cards created by inclement weather. All kids with an “A” or equivalent grade can get a free ticket to see Friday’s game courtesy of the Komets and Comcast. Students may present a copy of their report card with an “A” or equivalent at the Coliseum Ticket Office to get their ticket. Comcast Xfinity has pledged a donation for each “A” student attending the game with all proceeds going directly to the Literacy Alliance.
Also Friday, the Pink The Rink celebration continues. The Komets will again wear their black jerseys trimmed in pink and white for the second consecutive home game. The special one-of-a-kind jerseys will continue to be sold during a silent auction during the game through the second intermission Friday. Net proceeds will be donated to the Vera Bradley Foundation to help in the fight against breast cancer and to promote awareness for early detection and treatment.
The Komets will have a rare Saturday night off this weekend before traveling to Evansville to face the IceMen at Ford Center Sunday at 6pm ET.
