Police arrest man after vehicle, foot pursuit

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Police arrested a man who apparently has ties to a Fort Wayne gang after a vehicle and foot pursuit in the southeast side of the city Sunday afternoon. According to police, Henry Purifoy III, 23, threw a gun out of the window while police were attempting to pull his car over.

Police said they received calls about gunshots being fired on Sunday shortly before 5 p.m. Officers then attempted to pull over Purifoy’s car near Drexel and Anthony, but Purifoy refused to stop. During the pursuit, Purifoy threw a gun out of the car. Police said the gun that was thrown out the window was stolen on January 4 of this year.

Purifoy jumped out of the car at Hanna and Lasselle and then ran east into Chapel Oak Apartments, according to police. Police kept chasing Purifoy and said he eventually jumped into a snow bank.

Purifoy was arrested in front of 2029 Greentree Court at the apartment complex. After he was arrested, police said they found marijuana in his pocket.

According to police, Purifoy has ties to the D-Boys Gang in Fort Wayne.

According to court documents, Purifoy faces the following charges:

  • Resisting Law Enforcement With a Vehicle
  • Resisting Law Enforcement
  • Possession of a Handgun by a Felon
  • Possession of a Handgun Without a Permit
  • Receiving Stolen Property
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Criminal Trespass

Police said an officer suffered minor injuries to his knees after slipping and falling on some ice during the foot pursuit.
