Mad Ants 4-game win streak snapped at Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa Energy defeated the Fort Wayne Mad Ants 125-117 on Sunday night at Wells Fargo Arena.

The Energy and Mad Ants traded baskets in the first quarter. Iowa led 28-24 after one. Patrick Christopher had eight of his 11 points in the first.

Fort Wayne shut down the Energy in the second, outscoring Iowa 27-12 in the quarter. Fort Wayne led 51-40 at the half.

Fort Wayne started hot in the second half, pushing the lead to 21 points, behind Ron Howard and Tony Mitchell. Curtis Stinson scored 10 of his team-high 20 points in the third quarter to cut Fort Wayne’s lead to 85-73 heading into the final quarter.

The Energy stormed back in the final quarter behind Austin Freeman. Freeman scored 19 points off the bench, all in the final quarter. Augustus Gilchrist had 10 of his 16 points in the frame to help Iowa outscore Fort Wayne 52-32 in the final quarter. Iowa improved to 21-11 on the year and pushed the team’s winning streak to five games. Fort Wayne falls to 21-14 on the season.

The Mad Ants were led by Ron Howard’s 24 points and 10 assists. Mitchell added 20 points off the bench for the Mad Ants. Sadiel Rojas finished the night with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Iowa was led by Curtis Stinson, who had 20 points, seven assists and five boards. Freeman finished with 19 points. Othyus Jeffers had another double-double, finishing with 15 points and 12 boards.

Jackie Carmichael ended the night with 15 points and 10 rebounds for Iowa.

Fort Wayne next plays at Erie Friday.
