FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Northeast Indiana will have two representatives at this year’s semi-state round of the IHSAA girl’s basketball tournament. Norwell advanced Saturday night with a 61-52 win over Muncie Central in 3A, while Canterbury won a 2A regional title over Westview, 77-52.
Norwell coach Eric Thornton said after his team’s win that there were times during the year that he didn’t think his team would make it as far as it has. The Knights advanced to the regional title game with a Saturday morning win over NorthWood, 55-54 in the regional semi-final.
Norwell will face Western High School next week.
Canterbury, who has been bumped up to 2A this year due to the success factor, was led by it’s usual suspects in Saturday night’s regional final. Senior Kindell Fincher led the team with 27 points. However, the Cavs outside shooting was mostly left up to junior Darby Maggard. The guard scored 25 points, including five made three pointers.
Canterbury will square off with Tipton in next week’s semi-state. Tipton advanced with a 64-58 regional championship win over Wabash.
