MARION, Ind. (WANE) – Dunham’s Sports announced it’s building a 735,000 square foot distribution center in Marion to replace a 1994 building that the company said is too small to support the company’s continued growth.
The company said in a statement Wednesday the new building will be located on Commerce Road and is scheduled to open in the fall.
“We are very happy that we are in talks with the City of Marion and the State of Indiana on finding a site for our new distribution center,” said Doug Billingsley, VP of Logistics.
The Marion Chronicle-Tribune said the old facility in Marion currently employs 250 people. The new $20 million building will eventually add 135 jobs.
The company also announced it will relocate its Marion store to a larger location on Western Avenue. The larger store will include an expanded hunting section and a new golf shop. The new store should open this summer.
Dunham’s Sports is one of the nations largest sporting goods chains, according to the company’s website. Last year, Dunham’s opened new stores in Fort Wayne and Columbia City as well as additional stores throughout Indiana. It also recently expanded a store in Defiance, Ohio.
The Michigan-based company was founded in 1937 and currently has over 200 stores throughout the Midwestern and Southern United States.
