FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  The large police response at the Relax Inn & Suites was due to a fight over drugs, according to police.

Police were called to the motel at 3527 West Coliseum Boulevard around 9 a.m. on Wednesday. When NewsChannel 15 arrived shortly after, there were about a dozen police cruisers on the scene.

Fort Wayne Police Department Spokesperson Michael Joyner said two men in a room at the motel were in a fight over a spice deal.

One man was stabbed in the finger and the other man was hit over the head with a frying pan. Both refused medical attention.

Three young children were in the room during the drug deal and the fight.

“The significant aspect of this whole investigation is the fact that it was over spice, a battery occurred and while young children were present,” said Joyner.

The Department of Child Services has been called out to investigate and will determine what action, if any, is necessary. Police expect the children to be removed.

Both men are facing battery charges, at a minimum. No arrests have been made yet.

Possessing or selling spice is illegal in Allen County, according to police and city ordinance.
