Girls Basketball Sectional Championship Recap

It will be hot

FORT WAYNE, IN. (WANE) – Homestead had revenge on the mind Saturday night at South Side – and the Spartans followed through. Homestead avenged last season’s sectional championship loss to South Side with a 79-70 over the Archers to advance to regionals. Freshman Karissa McLaughlin exploded for 29 points, while senior Sydney Buck added 23 of her own. The 5th ranked Spartans took a 22-16 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in advancing.

Across town at Northrop, Carroll only lead East Noble 22-21 at halftime, before the Chargers put together a 27-point fourth quarter to pull away 65-49. Madison Peterson dropped 22 points to lead Carroll, while Jacey Cauhorn did the heavy lifting for the Knights scoring 11.

In 3A action, #3 and unbeaten Garrett outlasted #5 Concordia in a match-up that felt like a state championship game. Brandi Dawson lead the way with 16 points as the Railroaders held court at home with a 49-39 win. Norwell had little trouble wrapping up the Bellmont sectional crown with a 74-61 win over Columbia City.

Canterbury continues to roll through the 2A postseason. The Cavaliers got 55 total points from Darby Maggard and Kindell Fincher as they stormed past Woodlan 83-40 to win the Bluffton sectional. At Central Noble, it was Westview besting Prairie Heights 75-55 for the championship.

In the 1A sectional at Southern Wells, the host team topped Monroe Central 55-25 in the finals.
