Police said Leonard L. Hutchison, 57, of Edon, Ohio was gong east on U.S. 20 in a 2002 Peterbilt cab semi pulling an empty flat-bed trailer. Brock J. Thompson, 25, of Angola, Indiana, was driving a 2004 Dodge Stratus westbound.

Thompson pulled into the eastbound lane to pass another westbound semi truck and went right into the path of Hutchinson’s truck. The vehicles hit nearly head-on. Hutchison and his passenger were not hurt.

Thompson had serious injuries to his head and lower body. Samaritan flew him to Parkview Regional Medical Center. A nursing student came upon the crash not long after it happened and helped provide first aid to Thompson. Officials said that helped save his life.
