2/14 Friday Night Highlight Zone

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Last year’s 4A state runner-up will square off for a sectional title against this year’s highest ranked local team as South Side and Homestead each won at Don Reichert gymnasium in girls sectional semifinal action on Friday.

South topped Jay County 56-37 while 4A no. 5 Homestead bested Huntington North 79-46. Sydney Buck and Grace German each had 17 points in Homestead’s win. The Archers and Spartans will square off at 7 p.m. tomorrow night for a sectional title. Last season South edged Homestead 54-53 in the sectional title game.

In 4A action at Northrop it was East Noble knocking off Snider 59-54, snapping Snider’s streak of four consecutive sectional titles. East Noble was led by Kourtney Edwards with 21 points and Kavan Edwards with 13. Snider’s Deja Wimby tallied 33 to lead all scorers. East Noble will play Carroll tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. for a sectional title as the Chargers beat North Side 61-36 in the late game at Schoeff Gymnasium.

At Paul Bateman Gymnasium 3A no. 3 Garrett topped ACAC rival Leo 43-25 to advance to the sectional title game. Garrett will face 3A no. 5 Concordia tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. as the Cadets beat SAC rival Bishop Dwenger 58-36.

In 3A play at Bellmont high school 3A no. 12 Norwell outlasted Heritage 58-51 in the early game while Columbia City beat Mississinewa in the nightcap 45-33. The Knights and Eagles will play for the sectional title at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow night in Decatur.

At NorthWood high school Whitko bested Lakeland 60-45 and NorthWood beat Tippecanoe Valley 84-61. Whitko and NorthWood square off at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow.

In 2A play at Bluffton high school 2A no. 3 Canterbury had no problem with Churubusco, beating the Eagles 82-46. The Cavaliers will face Woodlan tomorrow in the title game at 7 p.m. as the Warriors disposed of Eastside 54-28.

At Northfield it was 2A no. 4 Wabash over Southwood 53-42 while Oak Hill bested Northfield 43-25. The Apaches and Golden Eagles will play at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow for the sectional title.

In 2A play at Central Noble high school 2A no. 12 Westview beat Bremen 63-45 while Prairie Heights topped Fremont 60-51. The Warriors and Panthers will battle for the title at 7 p.m. tomorrow.

1A action at Hamilton high school saw Bethany Christian top Blackhawk Christian 51-42 while Hamilton topped Lakeview Christian 49-22. Tomorrow’s title game is set for 7:30 p.m.

Down in Poneto Southern Wells dominated Cowan 71-23 while Monroe Central beat Wes-Del 42-22. The title game at Southern Wells is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tomorrow.
