Person injured after shooting on Serenity Drive

Serenity Drive shooting

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  – Police followed a blood trail through an apartment complex before finding Thursday’s shooting victim.

Police were called to the 7900 block of Serenity Drive just before 4:00 p.m. Thursday after getting the report of a shooting. When officers got there they were initially unable to locate a victim or any witnesses, however one officer did find a tan Oldsmobile, still running, with bullet holes and blood on it.

A handgun could clearly be seen between a seat and the door. A blood trail from the car ended in the road.

Another officer driving around the area found a man jogging along the road. When the jogger noticed the squad car he sped up, according to the police report. When police stopped him, he put up his arms and said “They just tried to rob us.” This person had not been shot or injured but told police his friend had been shot.

Meanwhile, officers on the scene near the car had picked up the blood trail at a nearby apartment complex. As officers followed the blood, residents told them where the victim was. He was found sitting in a lobby chair with gunshot wounds to his right hand and a shot to his leg or midsection, according to the police report.

The victim told police he didn’t know where the person who shot him went.

Medics took the victim to the hospital in serious condition. Once there, he was upgraded to good condition.

Police said it is unclear if the victim was shot while inside a vehicle or outside near an apartment. A second car, a Chevy Impala, believed to be involved in the shooting was found abandoned stuck in the snow.

They continue to interview witnesses to try to figure out exactly what happened.
