Federal-Mogul in Avilla shutting down

AVILLA, Ind. (WANE) – Federal-Mogul Corporation announced earlier this week it will shutter operations in Avilla, according to a letter sent to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

The company plans to permanently terminate 95 employees at the facility by October. Federal-Mogul said it will provide transition support for employees.

The Avilla plant manufactures lighting systems for the automotive, marine, rail, and heavy-duty engine manufacturing markets.

Federal-Mogul said in a WARN notice to the state it is shutting down operations due to, “…changing market dynamics and a need to rationalize production locations and improve capacity utilization of the company’s lighting operations.”

In 2008, the company announced a $6M expansion of the facility and promised to add 50 new jobs by 2010. At the time, the Avilla plant had 120 employees. But will cease operations this year with only 95.

According to the company’s website, Federal-Mogul has made several company acquisitions in the last year and hired a new CFO and co-CEO.

Federal-Mogul is a global company with nearly 45,000 employees. It has facilities all across the country, including plants in South Bend, Indianapolis, and Frankfort.
