COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – Two Columbus parents are facing charges after their 6-month-old son went to the hospital with broken bones and head hemorrhages.

According to court documents, a doctor who examined the baby reported he had a number of internal injuries to his head and abdomen. He had three head hemorrhages, two broken ribs, a lacerated spleen, a broken leg, and a broken arm.

The doctor said there were “no medical conditions that would cause this constellation of injuries.”

On Thursday, police arrested 25-year-old Pedro Lopez and 18-year-old Leydi Garcia after the couple admitted to shaking their baby.

Lopez and Garcia are being held at the Bartholomew County Jail. They each face charges of battery resulting in serious bodily injury to a person less than 14 year of age and neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injuries.

Hospital officials said the baby is undergoing treatment at Riley Hospital for Children.
