Man who didn’t pay for gas leads police on pursuit

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – Police said a man who drove away after not paying for his gas at a Leesburg gas station led police on a pursuit Friday morning.

According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Brandon Stuart Alfano, 25, of Leesburg, got $40 worth of gas at Katies Kwik Mart and then left without paying at around 8:30 a.m.

Police identified Alfano’s vehicle heading eastbound on Armstrong Road, near the intersection of County Road 200 East. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but Alfano kept driving.

Alfano eventually turned his car around and headed towards the officer’s squad car head-on.

Police said Alfano eventually stopped his car and the officer held him at gunpoint after seeing Alfano grab what appeared to be a handgun in his center console. According to police, the weapon was actually a pellet gun.

Alfano was arrested at the scene. Police found meth on him during the arrest, according to the sheriff’s department.

According to police, Alfano is facing the following charges:

  • Theft
  • Fleeing from law enforcement with a motor vehicle
  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Operating a motor vehicle while determined to be a habitual traffic violator
