One person hurt in McKinnie Ave. house fire

Firefighters battle a house fire in the 2300 block of McKinnie Avenue Wednesday morning.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – One person was hurt in a house fire on the city’s southeast side Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were called to 2033 McKinnie Avenue at 1:04 a.m. and found a fire in the living room and flames coming from the side of the house. Crews had everything under control in five minutes once they arrived.

Fire officials said a person inside was able to get out of the one-story house on their own, but required medical attention. Paramedics took the person to the hospital in serious condition. Officials have not released the person’s name.

Two cats died in the fire.

Officials said the home sustained moderate fire, smoke, and water damage.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
