WHITLEY COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) Indiana State Troopers pulled over a semi on U.S. 30 in Whitley County on Saturday evening and soon found there was more than 80 pounds of powder cocaine in the passenger compartment.
The traffic stop of the eastbound semi was made just after 7 pm east of State Road 9 after the driver committed a traffic violation.
During their conversation with the driver, Guadalupe Quintanilla, 69, of Fort Wayne, troopers became suspicious based on behavior and their training to spot potential criminal activity.
The troopers called for a K-9 unit to sniff for drugs and the dog alerted them that there may be something illegal in the cab. Quintanilla gave permission for a search and that’s when troopers found 38 individually wrapped packages containing what turned out to be powder cocaine. The packages weighed one kilo each for a total equivalent of just over 83 pounds. The cocaine has an approximate street value of between three and four million dollars.
Quintanilla was taken to the Whitley County Jail where he bas being held without bond.
