FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  The Allen County Prosecutors office has ruled that an October 2013 homicide was justified.

Police said 33-year-old Richard M. Hood was trying to break into a home on the 300-block of Melita Street when the homeowner shot and killed the would-be burglar. The prosecutor’s office has now determined that the killing was justified and indeed the result of self-defense.

The homeowner, a Vietnam Veteran in his 70′s,  was by himself at the time of the home invasion attempt. He told police he heard a noise at his front door and when he went to check it out, there was a confrontation with Hood.

The man has lived in the neighborhood for decades and was not injured.
