FW police catch possible robbery suspects

Police blocked the area of Hanna Street and Creighton Avenue.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Fort Wayne police were called to an armed robbery in the 600-block of E. Creighton Avenue around 1:15 Sunday afternoon.

The male victim told police he was confronted by two or three men, each armed. Police said the suspects stole money from the man and pistol-whipped him.

Witnesses told police that they saw an individual run into a house nearby on Creighton. When officers arrived, they were able to detain two men as possible persons of interest.

In the search for the possible third person who may be in a house, the department’s Emergency Services Team was called in.

“We eventually got consent to search the home by the homeowner. Officers deployed our robot to do a camera or visible search of residence and unattached garage,” Mike Joyner, the public information officer for the Fort Wayne Police Department, said.

The robot camera did not find anyone, so the EST members went in. After a search of the house, again no one was found.

“We have two persons of interest being detained now and talking to detectives to determine if they have any involvement in this incident. They were detained at the scene immediately upon arrival of officers,” Joyner said.

Joyner said the investigation is ongoing to determine if three people were involved or not.

“The two that we have could very well be involved and we’re making that assessment at this point,” Joyner said.
