STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – Police arrested a man who they say stole a car in Fremont early Sunday morning. A tip, along with footprints in the snow, led officers to find Levi Stetler, 27, of Ashley, hiding in a ditch off CR 100 E in Steuben County.

According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department, officers received a call about someone stealing a vehicle on Toledo Street in Fremont at around 3:15 a.m. Sunday. The car was later found in a ditch along Feather Valley Road, in the area of the Toll Road.

Police then received a call from an area resident who said a man was trying to hide along CR 100 E just South of Feather Valley Road.

Officers saw fresh footprints in the snow in that area that went through a field off of CR 100 E.  Police followed the tracks for around a half mile and found Stetler hiding in a ditch.

Stetler was arrested and booked in the Steuben County Jail on the following charges:

  • Auto theft, a class D felony
  • Operating while intoxicated, a class A misdemeanor
  • Driving while suspended with a prior conviction, a class A misdemeanor
