One Billion Rising event returns to Fort Wayne

In 2013 over 600 people in Fort Wayne, Indiana joined others in 207 countries in a global movement, One Billion Rising. It seeks to help end violence against women and girls. This year women and men are invited to stop by Parkview Field to show support and even dance along with others to lift the darkness and break the chain of violence. Violence doesn’t discriminate. It is estimated that someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted every two minutes. The program will begin at 5p.m. and conclude at approximately 5:45p.m.  WANE-TV First News and Noon Anchor, Terra Brantley will emcee the program.

Those who wish to learn choreographed dance moves can do so through video lessons online. Just visit the to access the tutorials.

Five charity partners will provide education at the event about how they help women and men, children and seniors become survivors in the wake of violence and abuse. These include the YWCA of Northeast Indiana, Fort Wayne Center for Nonviolence, Fort Wayne Women’s Bureau, Inc., Crime Victim Care of Allen County and the Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Treatment Center.

The event is free, but proceeds from donations (suggested $3 per person) will be split equally among the charity partners. provides commenting on many stories to allow for constructive discussion.
