FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Police say a drunk woman crashed into a parked car last Friday morning and then took off from the scene shortly after she had left her two young children at home in bed.
According to the affidavit for probable cause, Brandy M. Horne, 36, of Fort Wayne, crashed into a parked car at around 1 a.m. The owner of the other car told police he saw Horne hit the car. She then got out of her car, fell down in the snow, then got back into her car and drove off. Police said the crash caused more than $2,500 worth of damage.
The driver of the other car told police Horne was his friend’s girlfriend. Officers went to Horne’s house and said she was stumbling, slurring her speech, and smelled strongly of alcohol.
Police said Horne’s two children, ages four and three, were sleeping inside the home.
Horne admitted to police in an interview that she crashed into a car and left the scene. She also admitted to leaving her kids in her home even though she knew nobody else was home at the time.
Police said she left her kids alone for around an hour and a half.
According to the probable cause, Horne doesn’t even have a driver’s license in the state of Indiana.
Horne is facing the following charges:
- Neglect of a dependent, a class D felony (two counts)
- Criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor
