Sheriff’s department warns of fraud scheme

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Allen County Sheriff’s Department is warning area residents about recent fraud attempts to collect debts via phone calls.

The sheriff’s department and Fort Wayne Police Department have received phone calls in recent days about residents being contacted by telephone and informed they owe a debt. Callers tell victims they area with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.

Officials said victims are told if they don’t send money a warrant will be issued for their arrest. They are also told the Sheriff or a federal agent will come to their home and arrest them

The department said if anyone receives similar phone calls they should hang up and not send any money.
