FORT WAYNE, Ind. – IPFW senior guard Pierre Bland has been named the Summit League Co-Player of the Week after his performance against in-state rival IUPUI on Saturday evening.
Against the Jaguars, Bland narrowly missed a triple-double with 16 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists while adding three steals and committing just one turnover in the contest. He shot 66.7 percent (6-of-9) from the field, and converted his only three-point attempt.
He shares the honor with North Dakota State’s Taylor Braun. Braun put together a 30-point performance in a road victory at South Dakota State. Along with his 30 points, Braun added six rebounds and six assists in the game. He converted 60 percent (9-of-15) of his field goal attempts and 83.3 percent (10-of-12) from the free throw line.
Bland is averaging 10.1 points per game this season, while leading the Summit League with 42 steals, and second with 95 assists. He also averages 4.8 rebounds per game – third on the team – while shooting 53.5 percent (76-of-142) from the field.
The Mastodons, 16-6 on the season, return to action on Thursday, January 30, when the team hosts the Mavericks of Omaha in a 7 p.m. tip-off at the Gates Sports Center.
