MBB: Hail-mary pass lifts USF over Mt. Vernon, 69-68

MT. VERNON, Ohio — Austin Fox couldn’t have been any more wiley taking a perfect inbounds pass from University of Saint Francis center Kyle Sovine to score the winning layup with 0.3 seconds to play giving the No. 8-ranked Cougars a pulsating 69-68 win at Mt. Vernon Nazarene University on late Saturday afternoon.

The length-of-the-court pass from Sovine to Fox vaulted USF into first place alone in the Crossroads League with an 8-2 record. USF improved to 16-6 overall.

Josh Hogan led USF scoring with 17 points, Fox finished with 15, Scott Kohne posted a double double with 14 points and 12 rebounds and Sovine finished with 10 points and just the most important assist of the game.

USF led 30-28 at halftime.
