NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. (WANE)  – The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police are investigating a bank robbery and pursuit that ended in an apparent suicide in the southeast portion of Kosciusko County.

Initial information indicates the armed suspect went into the First Financial Bank of North Manchester, located at 106 North Market Street, shortly before 6:00 p.m.  After getting an undisclosed amount of money from a teller, the suspect got on a bicycle and rode a short distance to a Ford Ranger pickup truck. A witness saw that and followed the truck while relaying information to 911 dispatchers.

A North Manchester police officer began to pursue the suspect, who evaded police and eventually stopped on State Road 13 near the intersection of State Road 14. He refused to get out of the pickup truck. Moments later, a gun went off inside the truck.

The North Manchester officer and officers from South Whitley Police Department approached the vehicle and determined that the male suspect was suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency personnel responded to the scene but immediately called for the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office. The coroner pronounced the man dead from injuries that appeared to be consistent to self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

Due to the current ongoing investigation, no names are being released.
