BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) – Bloomington Police Department arrested a 20-year-old man accused of trying to create an explosive.

The FBI, Bloomington Police Department and Indiana National Guard were all involved in investigating Ryder Lewis Pickens for the past week.

The investigation revealed Pickens did online searches for weapons of mass destruction, sarin gas, Agent Blue and the chemical components for Agent Orange, according to police.

Inside Pickens’ bedroom, investigators found lab equipment and various chemicals. According to the FBI’s explosive experts, the items in Pickens’ home could “synthesize explosives.”

Pickens was arrested on a preliminary charge of attempted manufacturing of a destruction device, a Class C felony. In an interview with police, Pickens admitted to having the equipment and chemicals but wouldn’t agree that he was trying to create explosives.

The investigation began after someone called police to tip them off.
